I can’t even begin to tell you the horrid disdain I had for society after news broke that George Zimmerman, the man who murdered an innocent 17-year-old Trayvon Martin… the man who was acquitted of those charges because of some bullshit law… the man who is still in the news every other day about paintings & domestic violence… was going to take part in a for-profit celebrity boxing match with DMX.
WHAT. THE. ENTIRE. FUCK. HAVE. WE. BECOME?
This horrid disdain slowly became a sour hatred this evening. The person responsible for setting up the celebration of George Zimmerman, Damon Feldman, cancelled the bout but only after the entire world came down on him.
SHAME ON YOU, Mr. Feldman.
It should not have taken the entire world coming down on you to see that what you were attempting to orchestrate was WRONG. It should not have taken you going home and taking a moment to look at your children to know that this was WRONG. There is a billion other ways to make a buck, but you chose to give George Zimmerman another 15 mins of fame by putting him in the celebrity category. The “Stand Your Ground” extraordinaire has successfully gained the infamy he sought and Mr. Feldman, you’ve helped him smash it in the face of the Martin family. You have sullied the name of a 17-year-old young man whose only crime that night was walking the streets, sagging his pants, wearing a hoodie & being black.
To DMX, there is no judgement. I’d want to whoop his ass too.
To my fellows in the Black Community, take a minute to think about just how hard it is to be young and black in today’s society. We don’t have it nearly as bad as our ancestors, times have changed and the world has grown, but I’ll be damned if we don’t have our own obstacles and challenges. We are still oppressed. We still struggle. But we’re still surviving.
Hats off to EVERY SINGLE PERSON who directed their anger & harsh words towards ending this debacle. Let’s keep Zimmerman of that perch he ungraciously sits upon via mainstream media. SMFH.
