As seen on artists from Curren$y to Nipsey Hussle, Local Tourist presents its summer lookbook as well as 1982, a commemorative mix by DJ Spintelect, Talib Kweli’s DJ. The lookbook was shot by photographer Jay Cloud. Curren$y has been wearing Local Tourist on several recent performances (click to watch Curren$y rocking Local Tourist on tour) as does his artist Le$ in his new video for “Prosper” (watch). Owner/designer Eric Fobair was born in Minnesota, raised in Texas and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. In his last year at OU, Eric began selling t-shirts with simplified line drawings of various female faces out of his trunk. Upon graduation Eric moved to Los Angeles, where he set up clothing booths in clubs, warehouse parties, raves and art galleries. Originally planned to run for one month, downtown LA pop-up shop The Local Tourist Spot stayed open for 20 months, hosting DTLA Artwalk showcases for Riff Raff (watch), Nipsey Hussle and Overdoz. After these events outgrew the retail location, Eric partnered with Ham On Everything, throwing parties featuring Casey Veggies, Danny Brown, Joe Moses and more. The Local Tourist Spot closed after the building was bought out and Eric relocated to Minneapolis. Local Tourist’s new line features the phrase “original content”, building on previous brand mantras “guard your heart feed your mind” and “PMA” (Positive Mental Attitude) which were displayed on tees and snapbacks through 2014.
