Brooklyn producer Spencer Bellamy and New England musician/producer Apollos are Patchwork Bessie, presenting the Andre Cole-directed music video for “One Night Stand” featuring British singer Desi Valentine. “One Night Stand” will appear on Patchwork Bessie’s forthcoming self-titled EP, also set to feature singers Caleb Hawley and Lauren Diamond. Spencer produced East Flatbush Projects’ “Tried By 12” single, one of the most recognizable beats in 1990s underground hip-hop (listen), which was used at the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards during the Shady Cypher 2.0 including Eminem. He also produced for Jay-Z (listen to “Pre-Game” featuring Sauce Money), Foxy Brown and Memphis Bleek, and was mentored by the legendary Howie Tee (Color Me Badd, Special Ed, U.T.F.O).
Trained in piano, violin, trombone, and tenor saxophone, Apollos has written with Emily King, recorded with Talib Kweli, and performed with Melanie Fiona and Chrisette Michelle. The two met when Spencer heard Apollos playing the keyboard at their church in Mt. Vernon, New York. “When I first connected with Desi we already had the track,” Spencer says. “I found Desi on Kickstarter. I thought his style would be a great match for the track. I sent him the track and he came up with the song by the next day. Desi just broke up with someone and this was therapeutic for him.”
